Nokia and Intel merging to create a new mobile OS

The mobile device rival to Apple, Google and Microsoft has arrived? Not quite.

Nokia and Intel decided to become partners and merge into one entity, MeeGo, which can be expected by the end of this year.
MeeGo is a merger of Nokia’s Maemo OS and Intel’s Moblin OS, both of which are Linux-based. It’ll be built around the Moblin core OS, but it will utilize Nokia’s Ovi Store for its apps.
They intend it to be fun, focused, flexible, technically challenging and ultimately something that will change the world, but let’s be honest here, how can they really expect to compete with Google’s Android platform or Apple’s iPhone OS?
Although MeeGo’s software is not just exclusive to mobile phones, but also intended to work on netbooks, tablets, and televisions, it may still struggle against the market leaders.

Will Intel and Nokia manage to enter the smartphone market that Apple and Google monopolise?
Only time will tell!
