Foursquare has made a few updates. The mobile social network has announced that ‘checkins’ outside the immediate vicinity of the venue in question will no longer get points, badges or mayorships.
So if you were a ‘armchair mayor’ who cheated with your Foursquare checkins, by checking in bars while you’re secretly at home, your time is done.
To stop this kind of cheating Foursquare is now using your mobile phone’s GPS location to verify where you really are. Their goal is to reward only those who really are in the places where they say they are.
So with their new ‘cheater code’ Foursquare will not stop you from checking in wherever you want, but it will stop giving you points for fake checkins. They also created a small website where people can complain about being caught unfairly by the code to block cheaters.
Don’t fool Foursquare!
