Last week rumours kicked in that Facebook was in the process of introducing an option very similar to Twitters retweet function which allows users to re-post tweets of interest. This week that function has gone live allowing all Facebook users to “share” content via their profile. Currently it only works with posted links but we hear that it won’t be long until status updates and photos are integrated into this function.
The “shared” content will show up in your news feed as well as the news feeds of all your friends, thus creating the same viral effect achieved with retweet. But why would Facebook want to be like Twitter you ask? Well that’s simple. The integration of Twitter and Facebook real time feeds in Google, has only exacerbated the desire for the latest information, right here, right now. Leaving the social networks battling to get as much content as possible into the search results and more importantly, into the public eye.
